| RE: Mirroring of Design - Does the Table's software automatically do that? | 5 Relevance | 7 years ago | dithermaster | Community Tracks | |
| It's probably just interpreting theta reverse to what you thought, which I think would also mirror the X axis. | |||||

| Is there a track that displays what our tables can do in a short amount of time? We live in a retirement community and people ask if they can come and WAtch our table. The problem I am running into is I may be running a Design that takes a few hrs or doing an erase. Id like to have something where I could run a 10 min Design that shows something interesting for them to WAtch. Perhaps a track that just goes around the perimeter of the table so the Design in the middle is not disturbed. They all WAnt to see the ball move. We have a few Designs we keep all da ... | |||||

| ... on the X axis (doing a Cartesian translation of the polar .thr file)? The letters are reversed. I've only noticed this since most of my previous submissions were symmetric objects and the mirroring WAs not apparent. I just mirror the Cartesian file on the X axis and it looks "normal". But is this just how the table software works? | |||||
| RE: Design Question on Base Orientation for Making Tracks | 5 Relevance | 7 years ago | crsolomon | Community Tracks | |
| So let me try to rephase your answer 1) when you power up the table "theta" has an absolute meaning based on a sensor a) you can determine that position by looking at the position of ball at 0,1 after say an initial "Erase" routine. 2) After the 1st track play is complete - theta 0 now starts relative to the position of the ball when the new track begins. is that correct? Again - most tracks are symmetric so the starting theta 0 is irrelevant. It's just the ones that are pictures that end up "upside down" or "sideways". | |||||
| RE: Design Question on Base Orientation for Making Tracks | 5 Relevance | 7 years ago | Bruce | Community Tracks | |
| You touch on an interesting point. Yes, there is an absolute meaning of "up". It is determined by where "home" is for the Theta (rotational) axis - which is a physical sensor in fixed location. At this point in development, we haven't been religious about handling Theta - as opposed to Rho, where things are not at all forgiving if you start in the wrong place. For now, up is the Theta heading after the first homing after bootup (sensored). Tracks in a playlist start (Theta-wise) wherever they find themselves. (Ability to control this will improve...) | |||||
| RE: Feature requests | 5 Relevance | 5 years ago | Bruce | App Updates | |
| Appreciate the multiple suggestions, and will discuss with devs. One thing to keep in mind is that high speed on tracks that have sharp corners (which "erase" completely avoids) is more likely to cause position error on metal tables and Minis (because they use steppers, which do not have position feedback). Position error does not cause physical harm - but can cause noise, distorted tracks, and losing the ball from hitting the ball Park. | |||||
| RE: Ball gets hung up | 5 Relevance | 6 years ago | Bruce | Table Usage | |
| My guess is that you might have some cumulative position error (tiny errors that add up). This is more likely to happen if you run at high speeds. We're working on some improvements to the motion control code, that should lessen this likelihood - but in the mean time, you can move (or remove) the plastic ball Park by carefully loosening it by prying it up with a non-sharp flat tool (butter knife?). It's held in place by strong double-stick tape. | |||||
| RE: Looking for some experienced users' advice. | 5 Relevance | 6 years ago | dithermaster | Table Usage | |
| I run 2-ball frequently; I have Attach and Detach in my main playlist so it's kind of random. Yes, some tracks are not ideal in 2-ball mode. There is a flag for this, but the table does not use it yet. On my 2' side table I've never had lost ball or attached-to-main. The only problem I have is that after a while Detach stops working due to sand build-up in the ball Park, so I have to manually clear that. I'm wondering if maybe you have too much sand on your table. Did you use all of it, or about half-ish (we didn't use all the sand that came with the table). | |||||

| Hi gang. I’m a newbie and am very excited about the anticipated arrival of the metal coffee table that I just recently ordered. Q for you, as I’m new. I’ve seen multiple references to the two-ball + RGB upgrade, and now am not sure exactly what I might be getting when the table arrives. If I ordered the RGB metal coffee table, does it also come with the two-ball capability (ball Park + extra arm + extra ball) or is that an additional customization that is purchased separately? | |||||

| @burningamd, ah, right using the Community feature you can't see the track files. My tracks (same as in the Community) are downloadable here: @Bruce, OK, good to know about it not being centrifugal force! Too much sci-fi on my part I'm sure. Could the ball Park not be positioned correctly? | |||||
| RE: Feature requests | 5 Relevance | 5 years ago | massrich | App Updates | |
| Agreed! I use some tracks as a base before the next track, or to plow sand back to the center, so I’m not concerned about precision on those tracks, and would use faster speeds. For more intricate patterns, slower speed with more detail is better. In addition to the ability to change the speed of individual tracks in a playlist, I’d also like the ability to select whether to pause after each track. If I ran an E10, an attach or detach, or an Apache1 in reverse to push sand into the center, I would deselect the contemplation pause after those tracks. Possibly, for the attach and detach, program it to immediately begin the next track always. When editing a playlist, and selecting the add a track option, could the new track be inserted into the playlist at the point where you are in the list? Current behavior adds the new track to the bottom of the list, then you need to drag the track into the desired position in the playlist. What function does the “favorite” button have? Can “favorited” tracks be added to the left side of the edit playlist screen so they could be inserted easily? If so, I’d recommend that the attach and detach tracks default to “favorite” for easy insertion. If this is already a feature, please accept my apology for not having tested it! Do the tracks have the ability to attach multiple images in the library? I’d appreciate seeing images of the track in standard and reversed mode (for those that can be reversed), and with multi-ball (standard and reversed). Finally, I have a suggestion for an edge-plowing track. The magnet can go outside of rho 1, as it does during the Park and attach routines. Can a track be created to use the second ball to run consecutive reversing “c” patterns ending at each edge of the garage from the extreme reach of the 2nd magnet arm to clear the edges of the sand ridge back inside of the rho=1 position? Thank you! | |||||

| Is there a WAy to safely remove the ballpark ? I mean, detach it from the table without causing damage underneath ? I really love my table, I mean, REALLY, but ALL my frustrations come from this ballpark. During the first week when I got the table , I've tried a couple of tracks with two balls mode and it WAs nice to see it operate. But frequently, the second ball WAs getting stock on the "main Park" of the ballpark (on the right side)... Or even worse, during a Single ball track run, the second ball WAs hooked by "mistake" by the secondary arm and ruins th ... | |||||
| RE: Ball going out of bounds on several tracks. | 5 Relevance | 6 years ago | burningamd | Community Tracks | |
| @bruce I'll give that a look, it's only certain tracks though. Maybe the acceleration in those in particular are selectively causing slipping. But I suspect this is not the case because the track is otherwise OK and it seems very deliberately going off. For instance if you look at the photo of the triangular track, the track is "printing" fine, but as the triangle gets bigger it starts ramming the ball into the Park, eventually it over travels so much it knocks the ball off. It homes in the center fine and prints 45 other tracks perfectly. | |||||

| Thanks, Matt! I re-uploaded the SVG and made sure to set the XYLA tag, but the resulting file seems to crop only the top half of the Design (see attached screenshot). It also seems to still put the Design inside a circle instead of letting it fill out the full rectangle. Attachment : Screenshot-2024-06-10-at-5.33.06 PM.png | |||||

| @jillbolshawgmail-com Sorry , I should have mentioned that the full-seal gasket WAs a Design modification we made last year. It accompanied another Design change: replacing the separate LED shade ring for a black-out silk screened directly on the outer area of the glass. The gasket doesn't fit correctly with the shade ring in place. I would emphasize -- although spilled liquids that make it to the edge of glass can wick around the edge, but generally do not go beyond the top of the powder coated metal frame. As long as you clean the spill reasonably soon aft ... | |||||

| ... on your Sisyphus, but it will definitely cause problems if someone tries it on a different size Sisyphus. (The reason is that all rho values are scaled by the table's sand field radius. But the distance beyond the normal plottable field and the ball Park is not proportional to table size). If you'd like to post pics of your custom erase track in action, or post snippets of the track and explain how it works, for those who WAnt to create their own, I'm fine with that. But we do not approve tracks for download on our Community or forum that cannot be played ... | |||||
| RE: Attach/Detach the main ball | 5 Relevance | 6 years ago | Bruce | Community Tracks | |
| Yes, I have. I've been thinking about implementing head-ball Parking for a while. This would mean all tracks would have 3 possible playback modes: head-ball alone (normal 1-ball operation) 2-ball mode tail-ball alone The main concerns are reliability of adding another Parking / unparking routine on the other side of the acrylic ball-park, plus creating an interface that makes choosing between these easy and not a confusing mess. If you have programing ability, it is easy to create a track that emulates tail-ball only, using the head-ball - just take an existing THR file and replace every Theta with Theta + Pi, and every Rho with 1-Rho. These tracks will only look good for algorithmic stuff - this "inside-out" transformation is not kind to representational content! | |||||

| RE: One vs Two balls on 3' wooden table | 5 Relevance | 7 years ago | dithermaster | Table Usage | |
| In fact, since the ball Park appears to be a 2-car garage, you could potentially have 3 balls available, with 1 or 2 active at a time (I guess that's 9 combinations? A, B, C, A+B, B+A, A+C, C+A, B+C, and C+B). In addition to ball size, ball color could be cool (I'd love to see dark gray or black myself). To get truly crazy one could add a few more ball Parks at the other 3 cardinal directions and have up to 8 Parked balls. I put few "Attach" and "Detach" in my Default Playlist which is shuffled, so sometimes the table is single ball and sometimes it's dual ball. But some tracks don't look great in single ball, so it will be nice when this is better than just random chance (and instead based on the track flag). | |||||
