| Erase track special case problems | 1 Relevance | 6 years ago | john.hughan | Table Usage | |
| ... to an enhancement request. I'm finding that the Erase track does not always play at double speed as it should. It seems to occur more often when it is played in reverse (outside in). Just after my most factory reset, I noticed that the standard direction played normally. But then I WAnted to play a "01" track on an erased canvas, so in Order to force the Erase track to play in reverse, I created a playlist that contained my "MoveOut" track -- whose only instructions are "0 0" followed by "0 1", then an Erase track that would play in reverse, and then my ... | |||||
| Auto-Brightness for Mini | 1 Relevance | 6 years ago | minhvo | Table Customization | |
| Would it be possible to add an ambient light sensor to the raspberry board of the Mini in Order to have an auto brightness like the tables? Up to now I am setting the brightness over the API and an external light sensor, however something included would be more fail safe. If it is not supported by the software, would it be possible to get access to the pi user account to have a script running to check a photo resistor connected to one of the GPIs? | |||||
| RE: Any way to back up track and playlist libraries? | 1 Relevance | 6 years ago | heropup | Table Usage | |
| I can't answer the question about backups, but I can provide some background on the Dropbox tracks. Before the Community tab in the Sisyphus app WAs functioning, some of the earlier recipients of the table (mainly through the Kickstarter campaign) had learned about the track file structure and developed some of their own tracks. The browser version of the app allowed uploading of track files from the computer directly to the table. So in Order to share tracks, some of us uploaded them through various methods (e.g., Dropbox, GitHub, etc.) to make them avai ... | |||||

| ... talk about polar vs SCARA design. Also check out "Zen Table" by Simon Hallam, he WAs one of the first ones to commercialize the concept a few years before Sisyphus, but he used a cartesian design. We believe SCARA is superior to both cartesian and polar and a much more elegant solution that opens the door to very unique possibilities, like our Stelle design, which would be impossible with either one of the other mechanism types. This WAs one of the responses to the comments in the campaign, and I found it a bit disingenuous, to say the least, because the ... | |||||

| RE: Track organization. | 1 Relevance | 6 years ago | heropup | App Usage | |
| @mdolfis: By design, the WAy tracks are played, there isn't a distinction between "center-edge" and "edge-center." Here's how it currently works, and this includes the erase pattern. If the next track to be played is "center-edge" or "edge-center," wherever the ball has ended, the table will automatically read the next track in forward or reverse Order so as to not need to jump from edge to center or vice versa. So for example, if the current track ended at the edge, but the list of coordinates for the next track begins at the center and ends at the edge ... | |||||
| RE: Playlist track limit and dissapearing tracks with repeat? | 1 Relevance | 6 years ago | Bruce | App Usage | |
| The tracks that appear on the home screen are the current one (top), and those that will follow, in Order below it. There is no limit (that I know of) for number of tracks in a playlist - but the "tracks coming up list" only shows a certain number. When the repeat toggle is on, the track list wraps around to the beginning of the playlist. When you toggle it off, the "wrapped around" tracks (past the end of the playlist) will disappear, since they are no longer coming up. | |||||
| RE: Sand level low in middle? | 1 Relevance | 8 years ago | Bruce | Table Usage | |
| In addtion to heropups excellent reply - if you do notice the middle getting a little shy in the sand department, you can of course remove the glass and brush sand from the "terminal berm" (hill of sand around the periphery). But alternatively, a more elegant solution is to create a playlist consisting of two tracks: "e10" followed by "apache". Run the playlist in Order (not shuffled), with repeat on, and let it go all day (or over night). You should find after repeated runnings, that there is a net increase of sand in the center. | |||||

| ... My power supply and step down converter are able to power the accessories noted above, along with the Raspberry Pi, and motor hat without breaking a sweat. Now, on to the prototyping stage! In Order to make real progress, I had to make the hard decisions about the physical limits of my table: The Rho is going to be from 0 to 1 with no overrun. I don't need to WAtch out for the ball parks, because they won't be in the drawing area. The radius for the drawing area is 171mm. This fits tightly inside the legs of the table I bought. | DIY Table Theta Question | 1 Relevance | 7 years ago | makerbobdesigns | Table Customization | |
| I am building my own accent table for my office at work. I am going to add a mechanism inspired by Sisyphus design, but completely from scratch, with my own software and control. I can post updates if Bruce is OK with it. Question: In Order to use community (I also WAnt to publish) tracks, I need one bit of information that has conflicting posts. What direction would this .thr file be drawn? (0,1) (314.159,0) Positive theta. Is it CCW or CW? There are many posts that explain that theta "home" is at the "top" of a freshly homed start. | RE: Connect to WiFi that requires Username and Password | 1 Relevance | 7 years ago | ohlrogge | Connectivity | |
| Thanks for the response. I have my table in my office at work and so I don't have the ability to make these changes at the router level. Are there any other options? Note: I'm not sure on the details of what constitutes a "hidden" network. The WiFi networks at my office are visible to anyone, they just require both a username and password in Order to connect to. I have an iPhone with a mobile hotspot. I tried using that as well. But, oddly, the table doesn't find the mobile hotspot on the list of networks available even when, for instance, my laptop computer does. Do you have any suggestions along the lines of how to enable the table to connect to a mobile hotspot on an iPhone? Thanks | |||||
| Firmware 1.9.9 announcement | 1 Relevance | 7 years ago | MicahR | App Usage | |
| We had a recent server issue that resulted in some tables loading pre-release firmware. If you were affected by this your table will have firmware version 1.9.9 on it and alert you of a new version, currently 1.10.7, but will not update. Currently there are three resolutions to this. Replace the SD card with a new one that has updated firmware: If you'd like a replacement SD card, send your mailing address, name, Order number or backer number to [email protected] Advanced - manually update your firmware by connecting to it using SSH: see this article for the steps: Update Firmware using SSH Advanced - re-image your SD card: see this article for the steps: Steps to re-image SD card In the mean time, be aware that you are not currently missing any features as a result of this issue. However, you will not be able to update your firmware until one of the above three options is taken. We have only seen this issue on tables with firmware version 1.9.9. If you're experiencing similar issues on a version other than 1.9.9, please email details to [email protected] prior to taking the actions listed above. We're very sorry for the inconvenience and are continuing to develop our firmware and server for increased robustness and a better user experience. Micah Roth, COO | |||||
| RE: Reversible tracks? | 1 Relevance | 8 years ago | dithermaster | Community Tracks | |
| There are four types of tracks: center-to-center, edge-to-edge, center-to-edge, and edge-to-center. When you start playing a track, that track always plays in the Order that it WAs written. When you play a "playlist" with multiple tracks, the software will stitch together "compatible" tracks, and this includes flipping center-to-edge, and edge-to-center tracks to play in reverse, depending on where the previous track ended. So if you put your user-created tracks (I'd be honored if that including some of mine!) in a playlist then the C/E and E/C tracks might ... | |||||

(basically to have a WAy to seamlessly select the next track to play without interrupting the current track and forcing a whole homing sequence). Also, this is a bug, I guess -- I have noticed that when a list is playing and I select a new track to play in that list, the track I select is skipped and the next track is played. | |||||

| RE: One vs Two balls on 3' wooden table | 1 Relevance | 8 years ago | Bruce | Table Usage | |
| @Don, "Can anyone point me to some reading material that might help me progress into a more complex track making game?" Welcome to my world! First off - although I'm pretty sure when it comes to sand plotting, I have more area under the curve than most - I'm no authority. But with regard to compexity - I would divide it, for now, into those tracks that are generated algorithmically, and those not. So the pumpkin track, and any tracks that you recognize (including text), are non-algorithmic. All the others -'crop circles', spikey or swirly/loopy spirals, and fractals - are created via multilayered recipes (instructions) -aka algorithms. Both branches are infinite design spaces. Markyland created Sisyphus For The Rest Of Us so that people could more easily explore non-alg space. If you're interested in algorithmic pattern space - start googling. All you need to do is place the connect-the-dots in the right Order :). | |||||

I have a 36" table running 1.4.0 (I previously had the beta, but had a sisbot replacement and did not re-upgrade). My computer is a MacBook Pro running High Sierra 10.13.6 and my preferred browser is Safari (but the problem is reproducible in Firefox and Chrome).
