| Is there a track that displays what our tables can do in a short amount of time? We live in a retirement community and people ask if they can come and WAtch our table. The problem I am running into is I may be running a Design that takes a few hrs or doing an erase. Id like to have something where I could run a 10 min Design that shows something interesting for them to WAtch. Perhaps a track that just goes around the perimeter of the table so the Design in the middle is not disturbed. They all WAnt to see the ball move. We have a few Designs we keep all da ... | |||||

| ... on the X axis (doing a Cartesian translation of the polar .thr file)? The letters are reversed. I've only noticed this since most of my previous submissions were symmetric objects and the mirroring WAs not apparent. I just mirror the Cartesian file on the X axis and it looks "normal". But is this just how the table software works? | |||||

| ... an x,y based image and converts it into the dialect of polar that the table speaks and just realized there WAs a reversal. just my notes of the tables polar preferences vs the Cartesian equivalent 1) quadrants are different - for the normal 1,2,3,4 in Cartesian , the table "sees" 2,3,4,1 for the image - just a Pi/2 rotation fixes that. 2) The table is exquisitely sensitive to the value of Pi when you cross the 0 angle line clockwise or counterclockwise , otherwise it "jumps" in movement 3) The 0,0 area is problematic area for drawing - best to avoid or ... | |||||
| RE: Design Question on Base Orientation for Making Tracks | 5 Relevance | 7 years ago | crsolomon | Community Tracks | |
| So let me try to rephase your answer 1) when you power up the table "theta" has an absolute meaning based on a sensor a) you can determine that position by looking at the position of ball at 0,1 after say an initial "Erase" routine. 2) After the 1st track play is complete - theta 0 now starts relative to the position of the ball when the new track begins. is that correct? Again - most tracks are symmetric so the starting theta 0 is irrelevant. It's just the ones that are pictures that end up "upside down" or "sideways". | |||||
| RE: Design Question on Base Orientation for Making Tracks | 5 Relevance | 7 years ago | Bruce | Community Tracks | |
| You touch on an interesting point. Yes, there is an absolute meaning of "up". It is determined by where "home" is for the Theta (rotational) axis - which is a physical sensor in fixed location. At this point in development, we haven't been religious about handling Theta - as opposed to Rho, where things are not at all forgiving if you start in the wrong place. For now, up is the Theta heading after the first homing after bootup (sensored). Tracks in a playlist start (Theta-wise) wherever they find themselves. (Ability to control this will improve...) | |||||

| Thanks, Matt! I re-uploaded the SVG and made sure to Set the XYLA tag, but the resulting file seems to crop only the top half of the Design (see attached screenshot). It also seems to still put the Design inside a circle instead of letting it fill out the full rectangle. Attachment : Screenshot-2024-06-10-at-5.33.06 PM.png | |||||

| ... talk about polar vs SCARA Design. Also check out "Zen Table" by Simon Hallam, he WAs one of the first ones to commercialize the concept a few years before Sisyphus, but he used a cartesian Design. We believe SCARA is superior to both cartesian and polar and a much more elegant solution that opens the door to very unique possibilities, like our Stelle Design, which would be impossible with either one of the other mechanism types. This WAs one of the responses to the comments in the campaign, and I found it a bit disingenuous, to say the least, because the ... | |||||
| RE: Can I connect remotely? | 4 Relevance | 5 years ago | jeff.zacks | Connectivity | |
| Just following up on this thread. I Set up a table for my father and then Set up port forwarding to forward ports 80, 3001, and 3002 from the table. I can connect to the http server on port 80 and can connect to the table from the app by entering their WAN public IP as a manual ip address. When I try to control the table from either the web interface or the app, it appears to be letting me do so. However, none of the actions seem to have an effect. Is there another port that it's using for the upstream connection to the table, or is there a different roadblo ... | |||||
| RE: Question ref. track start points | 4 Relevance | 5 years ago | adambrower | Community Tracks | |
| Thanks for looking into this, @Bruce. The playlist has the following (2-ball mode), run sequentially (not shuffled)::Attachspmrph1r (0/1)tensig2$ (1/0 - reversed)trialdn1 (0/1) All are Set "reversible." All are Set to "force orientation." When I run the playlist, spmrph1r runs as expected. I can see the main ball in tensig2$ moving to the proper Theta in accordance with "force orientation," as expected, and tensig2$ runs reversed. Unfortunately, though, at the transition between tensig2$ and trialdn1, sisbot inserts ye olde looping connection line—and then runs trialdn1 in reverse! So something is not functioning as expected. | |||||

| ... coming up, I Designed a 3D-printable clip to hold aftermarket bumpers in place along the rim. I'm using the "50 pcs 8.5mm X 2.5mm special shape" bumpers from this $9 318 piece Set. These bumpers are $9 for 50 ($0.17 each, or $0.03 each if you include the value of the other bumpers included). It takes about 18 minutes to print 6 of them on my printer. I printed them in black PLA-CF. They will be a little tight when you re-insert the wood ring. I WAs just able to press-fit them with the thinner side between the inner surface of the rim and the wood ring. I ... | |||||

The other thing to be aware of is that tracks can be Set to "not reversible". Normally, "01" and "10" tracks are automatically reversed as needed to avoid connector lines. But not if the track is Set to non-reversible. You can change the Setting by clicking on a track (in the library) and viewing its Settings. Lastly - when you play a playlist, if you choose "shuffle" it will do it ... | |||||

| RE: Sisyphus Programming Guide - So far | 4 Relevance | 7 years ago | dithermaster | Community Tracks | |
| Thanks Ray. Some notes on your document: This paragraph: "All Files must start with a 0,0 or 0,1 position. The end pair of numbers in the file must end with rho value opposite of the rho value in the first pair (if you start with a 0,0 you end with a theta, 0)" says three different and conflicting things. None of them are true. In fact, you must start with rho equal to 0 or 1. The theta values don't matter. The initial theta is treated as a "starting theta" and all subsequent thetas are relative to it. The ending theta does not need to be 0 or the starting theta. This note "There are 2 'types' of instructions that the table can understand based on the difference between the theta values in the next Set of instructions in the data Set." is also not strictly true. The table only has one type of instruction, and that's a theta, rho pair. It moves that ball to that new position, interpolating in polar coordinates to get there. That's all. There isn't anything special about an erase (except the filename, which makes it run faster). In my path generators some of them think in polar but convert to cartesian, and then all of them subdivide cartesian lines or bezier segments down until they are small enough and then output them as .thr polar. In that backend I also look for "too small" of polar movements and remove points to keep file sizes down. The values I use for cartesian subdivison and polar point removal are tuned to not make artifacts, but also not make too big of file. | |||||
