| RE: Sisyphus Update 1.12.04 | 10 Relevance | 4 years ago | userfriendly | App Updates | |
| Great update, I appreciate that it makes the overall player UI a bit more intuitive. I couldn't see one either. I could only see the option to delete the track entirely? It would be great if we could simply remove one from "up next" to clean up the queue. The new option isn't to "run Erase before every track," it's a checkbox that can applied on a per-track basis. Which is helpful for the designs on some tracks, which look best against an erased Backdrop, like words, or drawings, of faces or objects, etc. I'm very glad to see this added, as previously we'd have to manually insert an "Erase" track beforehand in order to achieve the same. That would be super cool and very much appreciated too. | |||||
| RE: Color lights / 2 Ball retrofit kits? | 4 Relevance | 3 years ago | t.preston | Table Customization | |
| Hi. I'm a backer of the original Kickstarter back in 2016 for a 3ft coffee table, shipped all the WAy across the pond to the UK! Still loving it. I've seen the 2-ball Plus RGBW upgrade on the site but it's currently not showing. Do you expect it to be available any time soon? Many thanks and keep those creative juices flowing. | |||||

| Hi James, I think you're asking how to edit a playlist not just add a track. Follow these steps: Select Library on the bottom menu Select the playlist you WAnt to add tracks to Select the edit icon on the top right The first page allows you to re-order tracks in the playlist Select add tracks near the top, just under the playlist name. From here you can add and remove tracks at will by hitting Plus or minus next to the track. When you add a track it's added to the end of the playlist. Hit done on the top right to go back to the first page to re-arrange y ... | |||||
| RE: Attach/Detach the main ball | 4 Relevance | 6 years ago | Bruce | Community Tracks | |
| Yes, I have. I've been thinking about implementing head-ball parking for a while. This would mean all tracks would have 3 possible playback modes: head-ball alone (normal 1-ball operation) 2-ball mode tail-ball alone The main concerns are reliability of adding another parking / unparking routine on the other side of the acrylic ball-park, Plus creating an interface that makes choosing between these easy and not a confusing mess. If you have programing ability, it is easy to create a track that emulates tail-ball only, using the head-ball - just take an existing THR file and replace every Theta with Theta + Pi, and every Rho with 1-Rho. These tracks will only look good for algorithmic stuff - this "inside-out" transformation is not kind to representational content! | |||||

| Sorry for not including that information from the get go, Micah. I am using an iPhone 7 Plus running iOS 13.5.1. Just double checked the issue right now to verify that it WAsn't transient and I am able to reproduce the same error message today. | |||||
| RE: Mini surging/accelerating | 4 Relevance | 6 years ago | Bruce | Table Usage | |
| Hi @mikewand14 - Glad to hear you and your family are enjoying it! I can see the periodic acceleration / deceleration in your video - but this is within what I consider "normal" Sisyphus function. There are several reasons for ball velocity to vary during track play. The primary one is that the robotic mechanism that moves the magnet(s) has mass, and therefore, the motion control software is designed to slow down before a corner so it doesn't make a knocking sound (the sharper the corner the more the decel). That is why you see it happen on the track in your video repeatedly. I wrote this code, and it isn't perfect - when the ball is moving mostly in the rotational axis (Theta), and followed by a mostly in/out linear more (Rho), it doesn't always match the velocities perfectly. This will get tweaked in the future, and may help it look better to you. Lastly, you will notice that the ball "stutters" (wobbles) a bit at times. This is because the sand grains are not negligible in size compared to the ball, and they perturb it. This, Plus the inherent flexibility of the magnetic coupling, lends itself to the ball's velocity "bouncing" a bit at certain speeds and sand depths. Hopefully, the velocity variation you're seeing doesn't spoil the effect. | |||||
| Erase from outside in only? | 4 Relevance | 6 years ago | burningamd | Community Tracks | |
| As titled. I've had it for 2 days and I'm already noticing the center can get a little sparse with sand from the tracks, and often when I use erase it goes from the middle out making this worse (plus having to slide back in for the start of some tracks) Would be nice to have an erase that forces it to start from outside. Sometimes I try to switch to erase when the ball is out there and that works half the time but... | |||||
| RE: Esoteric Wishlist and Ideas | 4 Relevance | 8 years ago | Bruce | Other Development | |
| Thanks, Ross - nothing could be better than positive feedback, Plus great suggestions for the future! Everything you mentioned is absolutely feasible and something I've thought of before - except - the clean display of Track info (and data per user choice) that is external to the mobile / browser GUI. That is brilliant! Done right (as you say, "museum title card") it could be a fantastic option. If you or anyone else has the skillset and desire to work on something like this, we will definitely support it! | |||||
| RE: Impact of relative ball size? | 4 Relevance | 6 years ago | Bruce | Table Customization | |
| ... start to stick to one another due to van der WAals forces. This is why powders don't behave exactly like sands do. I have used pure baking soda - it works, and produces great detail - but just doesn't look as nice (IMO). This particle size boundary limits smooth rolling of smaller balls (ball:particle size ratio is too low - the ball gets "stuck" and deflected by the particles). Again, it's not a functional limitation - I have used ~1/8" diam. BB's, and they "work" just fine - but they move jerkily. If your goal is to to a picture of a completed track that ... | |||||

| ... step by combining the routines, but I WAs too lazy then, and I don't use it very often now (plus, I think the intermediate distortion looks interesting at times). Just vanilla plines (type 0). No arcs, splines, etc. Start and end your tracks either at the center or the edge of the circle. Check the resulting thr file. The rho value of the first and last vertex in the file should be either 0 or 1 (start and end can be the same rho). Rho = 1 is anywhere on your boundary circle. Remember, in the polar world, the path between 2 points is a spiral (Archimedes). ... | |||||

| Sisyphus Custom Text Generator - 3 straight lines or 2 circular ones | 4 Relevance | 7 years ago | crsolomon | Community Tracks | |
| I added a second option to the custom text generator that I wrote that can output 2 lines of circular text on the table or the previous 3 straight lines of cursive text, Plus some punctuation too. Interface is cleaned up too, all you need to run it is to download MS Small Basic v 1.2 and load it from there. (it 's free) I can only attach 2 items per entry - so look below for the program (.sb file), the data file (abcd.txt) and the instruction txt file Attachment : 2-line-circular.jpg Attachment : 3-line-straight.jpg | |||||
| RE: Latest iOS version not connecting | 4 Relevance | 7 years ago | mgraf68 | Connectivity | |
| Same troubles here. Plus I get really screwy behavior at times trying to pull up available WiFi networks (screenshot). Other times when the networks pull up, the app automatically switches to the "Switching Wifi Networks" screen before I even finish typing in the password. Then it will pop back to the network selection screen again, and all the networks are gone. This is one of the buggiest app updates I have ever seen. I even resorted to doing a factory reset and losing all my uploaded tracks and playlists, only to return to the same issues when updating to the latest firmware. I really hate being nervous about every single firmware update (and now app updates) with my table. Seems it has turned into that. ???? Seems like deficient QA test procedures? | ... via that route, but we haven't dived into it (yet). The down-side of LIFX Z is that the "quantum" of control is a group (zone) of 6 RGBW LED's, and I'm assuming the circuitry on their strips is proprietary, and takes advantage of being able to use 24V (as opposed to 5V for all other individually addressable LED strips). I'm guessing the 6 LEDs in each zone are wired in series makeing it possible to use a higher voltage, and hence far lower power supply current to produce the same WAttage. I'll be posting soon about our prelim findings comparing LIFEX Z to " ... | |||||

| I just started messing with the RGBW neopixels last week so I don't have a lot of experience, but I found ALA when looking for existing implementations of neopixels, arduino and Rpi for network control. The fact that ALA had built animations WAs a huge Plus, because I expected creating all the animations from scratch could suck up a lot of time. Here are the libraries and docs I used: ALA library Web-Controlled LED Animations After working on this, our embedded sys engineer is pushing me to experiment with direct RPi control and remove the added micro. ... | |||||
