| RE: Sisyphus Programming Guide - So far | 14 Relevance | 7 years ago | Bruce | Community Tracks | |
| ... or correct: All track files (filename.thr), must start with their Rho value either 0 or 1, and end with Rho either 0 or 1 - end and start Rho can be the same. I chose to start with this limitation so that tracks could easily be linked together without distracting traces connecting a new track's start to the last track's end. Therefore, there are four track "flavors": 00, 01, 10, 11. If a track finishes playing at Rho = 1, and the next track's start Rho is 0, the program will try to reverse the track - which will works for 01 and 10 tracks. If reversing d ... | |||||

| Yep, I opened an issue. Do you (or does anyone) know the System requirements? My box is far from current. | |||||
| RE: Single-step mode? | 4 Relevance | 6 years ago | Mark Roland | App Updates | |
| My code doesn't enforce the start/end at Rho 0/1, but it does normalize the radius between 0 and 1. John should be able to use it to enter his theta-rho coordinates to test and train his intuition on the coordinate System. | |||||
| RE: Any way to back up track and playlist libraries? | 4 Relevance | 6 years ago | john.hughan | Table Usage | |
| Makes perfect sense Bruce, and I received the email with the credentials. Also good to know that FTP is available, since that's a bit easier for me to work with on a Windows System compared to using SSH through PuttY. Thanks! | |||||
| RE: dampening noise from table | 4 Relevance | 7 years ago | Bruce | Community Tracks | |
| I'm very noise conscious myself. Can you tell me what speed you have your slider set at (if you have connected and changed the default speed)? Does it make sound when it's not moving (but still plugged in)? Thank you for describing the sound: whirring. That is very helpful! This is an ongoing hunt to make our System work as quietly as possible. | |||||

| You can ssh to your table (ask SI for credentials) and they will be in a folder on the Raspberry Pi file System. | |||||
| RE: Single-step mode? | 11 Relevance | 6 years ago | Bruce | App Updates | |
| As @dithermaster relayed, you can use the jog interface to discretely move each axis. But we haven't yet added that to our API. But our dev is working now on doing just that (allowing you to stream in commands via POST calls). As for getting used to the polar System - it does take some time, but it gets easier the more you play with it. While both Cartesian and polar Systems can describe every point on a plane, there are some big differences (the point at the center of the polar System can have different thetas, but still be in the same position (though having different "headings")). And there are what I think of as "symmetries": In the XY world, you can emulate curves using lots of little straight lines. Whereas in the polar world, you can emulate straight lines with lots of little spiral arcs. While there are some gotchas when converting Cartesian plots to polar plots, any path created in one System can be converted to other (with regard to positions along the path). | |||||

| WOW! Debug it? It works just fine on my System and never had a problem. I even posted a 2nd version that has more error checking. The only 2 things were that the program - sb file and abc.txt file be in the same directory. Since you had the source it didn't even matter if it WAs 32 or 64 bit Systems. And MS likes to see? Dropbox WAs the most evasive program I ever installed.(deleted it). Java installation is a nightmare on any System. I used Small Basic precisely because it WAs simple - and free. Maybe if you put it into a place where someone ... | |||||

This popup can happen several times before the track is actually rendered on the screen and I'm able to save it. When I click to save the track, the browser loses connectivity to the table, even to the point that I have to unplug it to regain browser connectivity. But then, I notice that the track that WAs supposedly uploaded, is not in the library. It seems that I can only be successful with very simple tracks (like s ...

| ... unreliable thus far? I've only shut my table down maybe 8-10 times, but I've always WAited at least 30 seconds to pull the plug after performing the shutdown in the app, and it seems that the table most often fails to come up properly again if it's been off for several days rather than only a few hours. I'm not sure whether that's truly a relevant factor or how/why it would be, but then again I also don't know why a Linux-based System that WAs properly shut down wouldn't come back in general. Great to hear a backup and restore function is on the WAy. I w ... | |||||

| ... at startup, and then....nothing. No lights, no motion, no connectivity through the app. I've seen this multiple times in the past even after performing a proper shutdown. So I did what I always did: hard power cycled it by just unplugging it. This time it came up, but when I opened the app, I saw a notice I'd never seen before, saying the table had been improperly shut down, that a file error had been fixed, and that the table may have been reset to factory defaults as part of that fix -- which I discovered it had been. SERIOUSLY!? "Hey, your table wo ... | |||||
| RE: options to become available soon? | 4 Relevance | 7 years ago | Bruce | Table Customization | |
| @ j.m.ratkos - In addition to the options you mention (bottom cover, 2-ball play), RGBW lighting is also coming. But I can't yet give a precise timeline yet, although I can tell you I have multiple tables running with these options now for evaluation in our prototyping lab. The hard part is fitting the options into our production line and support System. The last option - a servo-Sisbot for installation into 3' metal tables is possible, but not sure how many would be willing to pay the increased price for more speed (price would go up >$600). | |||||

When started up , sounding normal almost, it did an ,unknown to me, an erase track with an inward spiral. The Ball wobbled and jerked hesitated going around the table. I let it run for several rotations thinking it would stop jerking. The pattern it left WAs very nice. It looked like a twisted rope coil. I pause the table because I had not seen the ball act this WAy. Then I got a System fai ...
| Table now locking up on a regular basis | 4 Relevance | 6 years ago | john.hughan | Table Usage | |
| ... cycling the table fixes it for a few hours, but a) the problem returns a few hours later, and b) given prior experiences of how the table behaves after power is cut, I don't really like power cycling it. This is unfortunately just the latest aggravation of several in the 5 months that I've had my coffee table. First I ended up having to perform multiple factory resets, each of which restored the table to a slightly different state -- and each of which caused me to lose my downloaded tracks and custom playlists. Then I had a firmware update brick my table, ... | |||||
| Help backing up config before SD card reimage | 4 Relevance | 6 years ago | john.hughan | Table Usage | |
| I had a very brief power outage here (2 seconds or so), and afterward my 2-ball RGBLED coffee table is dead. After previous short power outages, the table reverted to hotspot mode, which WAs easily fixed, if still somewhat annoying. But this time, even after power cycling the table multiple times, the ball doesn't move, the table doesn't light up, and it doesn't join my WiFi network or show its own hotspot network. There are some blinky lights on th hardware under the table, but that's about it. So I'm resigning myself to having to reimage the SD card, w ... | |||||
| RE: Firmware 1.9.1 issues updating | 4 Relevance | 8 years ago | Bruce | App Usage | |
| Sorry for the confusing / rapid version number changes, Mark. We're trying to stick to a System of versioning that identifies "staging" from "master". Even second digits are master (production) code; odd are code changes in the final stage of testing prior to merging to master. Sounds like your table is on master, since you got to 1.8.x. Bear in mind, if you are on staging (beta tester), then you will always see an update reminder to the latest master version, despite being unable to update to it, since you are on a different branch. | |||||

| I'm interested in doing this as well, let me know if you have had success. I WAsn't sure if the power requirements would match up between the existing LEDs and the Hue System. I have several Hue lights throughout my house and this would be a great addition to the existing room lights to match up. | |||||

| Bruce, Have you seen this? I bet there would be huge demand for a scaled-down, table-top version of this. The possibilities for what to display "inside" are limited only by the imagination. In addition to WAves, you could have dancing fire, bouncing balls, the solar System, three-dimensional versions of the geometric shapes from the Sisyphus table, splattering paint, moving sand, rain, etc, etc. Just like with the Sisyphus table, there could be a multitude of different animated patterns - with accompanying sound effects - that could be organized in ... | |||||
| Single-step mode? | 4 Relevance | 6 years ago | john.hughan | App Updates | |
| I stumbled across the Sisyphus coffee table and WAs enthralled. While I enforced a mandatory "sleep on it" period before purchasing, I started looking into the custom track options like Sandify, Sisyphus for the Rest of Us, and Text Generator -- in addition to trying to wrap my head around theta/rho movement instructions in general, which WAs a completely new concept for me. Of course all of that research just ended up sealing the deal. 🙂 But now I'm wondering if there is -- or might someday be -- a WAy to run the table in "single-step" mode. By that I me ... | |||||
