Eventually i had the belt disconnected from the theta motor and it still kept stalling. It makes sense that it WAs the theta motor stalling, as the ball would just move slowly outwards while the theta motor WAs stalled and the rho motor i guess WAs attempting to match the rotation it assumed the theta motor WAs doing to keep rho constant/moving at the correct speed for the pattern. | Heh! I grew up 2 blocks from Clancy's Drug Store at 50th & France, and I agree about the spherical snowplow idea. I don't doubt that you've considered this issue for years, nor that it's a difficult puzzle. Whether we think of physics as simple or not, though, a berm does accrete. (I went with accumulate the first time, so this time I'll try accrete...) I mean, I'm looking at it right now, and this is After only five days of use since the last time I crossed my fingers and hoisted the glass so I could mitigate it. It's not an existential problem, but it does lead to some thin spots at the perimeter, and if you're borderline OCD like me, it's an unscratched itch. I had in mind a track that emulates the zigzag motion of apache or peon1, but which begins at rho=1.N. I could probably write that track, but I would fumble the part where it avoids the ballpark. Don't you even have an experimental script lying around that you could share? It needn't be a thing of beauty, just a hack to eliminate wrasslin with the heavy glass. (On the smaller table, obviously, it's not an issue.) I'm a tireless promoter of your product. Anyone who asks gets a ten-minute spiel on its elegance and beauty. I bought it when I decided to build a diY automated sand table, and After calculating what I would need to buy, and the hours I would have to invest, it turned out that I could purchase a Sisyphus coffee table for less it would cost to make my own, and into the bargain, yours comes with a body of tracks and a community of trackmongers. I adore the thing. I would never tell anyone "Don't buy it, sand builds up at rho>1!" I just wish I didn't have to lift the glass and remove the ring to return the sand to rho<1. | |||||

| Here are some missing steps in my build. Top photo is riveting the sides on the base After I carefully cut out the places for the garages. Middle is After I bonded extra 3/16" acrylic to the LED cutouts. I cut apart each LED and soldered them back together with a ~1/4" gap. Bottom is the nearly completed sand bed. | So let me try to rephase your answer 1) when you power up the table "theta" has an absolute meaning based on a sensor a) you can determine that position by looking at the position of ball at 0,1 After say an initial "Erase" routine. 2) After the 1st track play is complete - theta 0 now starts relative to the position of the ball when the new track begins. is that correct? Again - most tracks are symmetric so the starting theta 0 is irrelevant. It's just the ones that are pictures that end up "upside down" or "sideways". | |||||

| You touch on an interesting point. Yes, there is an absolute meaning of "up". It is determined by where "home" is for the Theta (rotational) axis - which is a physical sensor in fixed location. At this point in development, we haven't been religious about handling Theta - as opposed to Rho, where things are not at all forgiving if you start in the wrong place. For now, up is the Theta heading After the first homing After bootup (sensored). Tracks in a playlist start (Theta-wise) wherever they find themselves. (Ability to control this will improve...) | |||||

| Kristoffer, you are doing nothing wrong. In recent updates we changed the method of firmware updates to be less reliant on git working correctly. With this change, there are values that get passed to the server to request the right version of the update. I suspect your table is in one of the states where it does not send the value needed to receive the beta version back. So, just for this one time, I suggest updating manually (command line). And After that it should update in the future as intended. Navigate to ~/sisbot-server/sisbot and run the following commands: git reset --hardgit pull origin staging Then go to ~/sisbot-server/sisproxy and run: sudo ./restart.sh Try running the firmware update via the app again After those commands. If you have any issues with these, please let me know. | |||||

| I'm not sure how feasible this is, but After playing with my Sisyphus for a few days, I've noticed noticed that certain settings definitely complement some tracks better than others. For example, for geometric designs, it looks great to have the ball transition right into another track, but for some freestyle tracks, it would be nice to leave the finished product on display for awhile before the next track begins; personally, I also really enjoy seeing the ball rest in the center of the table After a 10 or 00 track, but I'm less fond of having the ball stop out of sight in 01 or 11 tracks. Likewise, on some tracks, the comet mode really brings out the motion of the ball, but on other tracks, I prefer the rainbow mode to complement the overall design. It would be amazing if we could add items to playlists that could accomplish this, like adding pauses to specific points in our playlist or changing the lighting mode/colors before certain tracks play (I've included a quick mockup of what I'm thinking the end result might look like.) | ... could possibly be related to the occasional power losses you've mentioned. If power outages are a frequent occurrence, I would suggest plugging the table into a UPS. The tables do not use much power, 5-50 WAtts max, so it wouldn't take a very large one to keep it running for a while. To debug the cause of the table becoming inoperable After a few hours, I'd like to check the logs on your table. If you WAnt to dive further into this please restart your table, enable log sharing and send a message through out support portal letting me know logs are available. ... | |||||

| @Bruce - So I decided to play around with creating a track After logging into my table and seeing the rho, theta coordinates for the "tail" attach and detach tracks. Using those as a guide, I WAs able to create tracks that utilize the other side of the ball park. Both have worked perfectly After multiple runs. AttachMain is attached below. **Note: I ran them with the tail ball already attached. | The table should grab the time from your phone when connected to it, but will not remember the time After a power cycle - this will change in the near future (the table will be able to get time from the internet). But without the table connected to WiFi, the phone is its only time reference. If it's still not updating After phone connection (every time the table is rebooted), please start a support ticket. | After applying 1.10.13 the default playlist started playback. I stopped playback and ended up with both balls parked in the ball dock and no WAy to get the table to regain either. I manually placed the ball and got running again, but it WAs unexpected After the update to have seen the larger ball apparently disappear! | |||||

| Hi Don, Yes, there is a trick, and I apologize for that. But we really WAnted to start shipping the wood tables, and we weren't quite ready with the app. We are just about to push an update that includes a better demo playlist (that will actually use two balls). But, if you WAnt to explore: There should be two tracks at the bottom of your track library, named "attach" and "detach". If you run attach (either as a single track or within a playlist), EVERY track After that should have two balls. Counter-wise - After detach, all tracks should have one ball. Th ... | |||||

| @robotmastern - The problem is almost certainly because you're on a very old version of the firmware (current is 1.10.83). Try updating (settings>advanced>firmware update). If it doesn't properly update, please contact our Service desk and they'll arrange a fix. | |||||

| You may WAnt to consider limiting your 2 ball runs to tracks that are symmetric 360°. Tracks that are asymmetric are best suited for 1 ball mode. IMO all tracks look better in one ball mode. I also think less sand is better. After some experimenting I settled around 15-16oz (1 1/4 of 2 bags) on a three footer. After my initial honeymoon period with my table WAs over I changed how I used the table good bit. Now a typically playlist looks like this: 1) attach 2) erase 3) detach 4) track of choice 5) see step 1 or play a track over a track. That method will ... | |||||

| Thanks for the info Micah, As it turns out I did not need the external antenna After all. See attached the pictures of what the table looks like After some small modifications :). It almost looks like my coffee table and the Sisyphus metal coffee table were made to be together. So I added my MoveOut track (instructions of just "0 0" then "0 1") followed by an Erase that would run from the center in. This time the Erase played at "regular track" speed. So it's clearly possible get a center-in Erase to run at the correct speed, but it also seems I'm able to make it fail somewhat consistently. | After the update today on the table firmware allowing us to load multiple files at once (thank you), I went back and added the same feature for output here - you can generate one file After the other without restarting. | ... It is certainly possible to change the software - and that will likely be an option in the future, since this is important for some users, such as yourself. But even without a software change, you can "force" playback of a path in a certain orientation if you're willing go "under the hood" just a bit. The key is that the orientation is always set After the table "homes" (moves until it activates sensors that confirm its in the home position of both axes). Also, due to the corrupt file, I do not know the "current" firmware that WAs/is in the corrupt card. Not sure if Siyphus has any issues with large jumps in firmware, please let me know if I need to update prior firmwares first before the most current. | To do it locally (just on your computer and Sis): Create your track in Sandify. Under "Machine" tab, choose Polar, and the start and endpoint (must be center or perimeter). Hit the Export button - choose Theta Rho format, give it a name, don't add start or end code - hit download. Connect the computer you downloaded the track to, to your Sis using a web browser. From the Sis app running on your browser, go to Settings / Advanced / Upload file(s). Upload file to your table, and be sure to hit "save" once you see the thumbnail of the track show up. To share a track publicly on our "Community" repo - create an account on Webcenter. From there you can upload your tracks, choose whether each is public or not. All public tracks are vetted by our staff to assure they do not violate our terms of Service (nothing overtly offensive, etc...). Once approved, shared tracks will be available using the Community tab on our app. | |||||
