But the example you give, while it shouldn't cause problems (without the empty line), will first erase from center to outside (100 revs along the WAy), and then circle in the opposite direction about 180 times, staying at the edge (this is the move between point 628.319 1 and point -498.821 1). If you WAnt to force a 100-rev erase before a track that starts at Theta = -498.821, either add or subtract 628.319 to or from -498.821 to get the starting Theta of the erase move (depending on which WAy, CW or CC ...
| Sandify dimensions for Xyla table? | 2 Relevance | 2 years ago | [email protected] | Community Tracks | |
| I just got my Sisyphus Xyla — thanks so much for a gorgeous table! I'm using Sandify to create my first track. As a guess, I set the following dimensions for the machine: Type: Rectangular Min X (mm): 100 Max X (mm): 1350 Min y (mm): 100 Max y (mm): 650 However, when I export either to THR format or SVG format, when I go to upload the track to , the result seems to assume I'm using the older round table style, even if I select the "XYLA" tag. Here's what it looks like in Sandify, the Sisyphus uploader, and the web interface for my Xyla. It seems to be correctly rectangular and has about the right aspect ratio in Sandify but looks squished after I upload it as if it were forced to the round table style. | ... files is ".thr"). Theta is in radians, and is in normalized length (0 - 1, where 0 is at the center, and 1 is at the farthest travel out). Unitizing the Rho value makes all tracks universal for any size table. All moves are from point to point, but instead of being linear as they would be in a Cartesian machine, they produce spiral arcs in this system. The simplest track file has just two points - an example being the "erase.thr" track: #erase.thr (start a line with # to make it a comment) #one vertex per line: Theta(real)<space>Rho(real from 0-1) ... | |||||
| RE: Default track after reset | 1 Relevance | 5 years ago | Bruce | Table Usage | |
| Yes. The key is putting the default track into a playlist. The current behavior of Sisyphi after bootup, is to play the playlist that WAs playing when it WAs last powered. If it WAs not playing a playlist, it plays the Default playlist. So just create a new playlist with your desired default track in it. Note: if you WAnt a single track in a playlist, you must add it twice (playlists must have more than one track). This is sort of a safeguard against playing a single track in repeat mode, which can cause the ball to retrace the exact same path 100's - 1000's ... | |||||
| RE: Ball Bearing Magnetic Properties | 1 Relevance | 5 years ago | Bruce | Table Customization | |
| @stevetheevans - not 100% sure that Home Depot's single bearings are not stainless, but I doubt they'd carry stainless (it's more expensive and less hard than carbon steels). But you can be absolutely sure if you just bring a small magnet with you next time you're shopping. BTW - you do not need 400-series stainless. Regular shiny (polished) steel balls stay that WAy over long periods of time when running on Sisyphus. I assume the sand does the "cleaning." | |||||

| To get the read-only benefits, you need to start with the RO image (note: it requires, at least, a 16GB card). There are too many things that could go wrong on an auto-update to this setup, that we do not WAnt to force it on anyone. If you do update to it, the new location for your status.json is /content/status.json, and tracks go in /content/tracks/ As for why your shutdown is causing data loss, I do not know why this particular one is having issues. If the app showed the "Improper Shutdown", I would guess that it WAs unplugged before the shutdown process ... | |||||
| RE: Ballpark problem | 1 Relevance | 5 years ago | Bruce | Table Usage | |
| We understand your frustrations - which is why we've discontinued two-ball mode as a "standard" feature (it can still be ordered as an add-on). Despite our concerted efforts to make it bullet proof, we haven't been able to make it 100% reliable. It's extremely unforgiving (as you've experienced) - any travel past Rho = 1 is at risk of hitting it. And yes, Community tracks may have out of bounds vertices, but they "should" be caught and clamped to 1 by our software. It's evidently not working all the time (and not every user has updated to the most recent firmware). In answer to your question: The ballpark is affixed using strong double-edged tape (carpet tape). To remove it, carefully work a "blade" (butter knife) in between it and the cushion material it's stuck to. Gently pry the ballpark upward while holding the cushion material down at the rising edge of the ballpark so the cushion separates from it (and isn't pulled up with it). | |||||
| RE: Are there any warranty issues | 1 Relevance | 5 years ago | Bruce | Table Usage | |
| Anything that's dry should be fine (no WArranty issue). I tried baking soda a few years ago, but powder doesn't look "natural" to me. I didn't understand it fully, until I read The Physics of Blown Sand and Desert Dunes (1941). Turns out that if particles are small enough (~100 microns or smaller), they get "sticky" due to Van der WAals force. Though the angle of repose is maybe higher for powder, the WAy the dunes look just doesn't appeal to me. But I'm fine with people experimenting - though I'd advise against using glitter (I'm still finding it 3 years la ... | |||||
| RE: Feature Request - Erase Between Tracks | 1 Relevance | 6 years ago | jeffh46 | App Updates | |
| Yes, 100% agree with this. I think I used to have the ability to move tracks around in my playlists as well as had to copy/paste 'erase' every time I added a new track so it would start with a clean slate. Now I can't seem to do that anymore so an auto erase between tracks would be the best choice. Any update on this? thx jEFf | |||||
| White LED temperature resetting | 1 Relevance | 6 years ago | john.hughan | App Usage | |
| I have a Metal Coffee Table with RGBW lighting running firmware 1.10.70. Recently I've noticed that if use the Sisyphus iOS app to change the White LED color temperature to any value on the slider other than the center value and then completely quit the app on my iPhone from the multi-tasking interface, when I relaunch the app, after the "Scanning for nearby tables" and "Connecting" phases complete, the table resets the white color temperature to the center value, and the slider in the app is repositioned accordingly. This is 100% reproducible. | |||||

| Write the following 2 line text file 0 1 314.159 0 save it as "inwarderase.thr" upload it and run it on the table - it will erase from the outside to the inside. use 157.0795 if you WAnt it faster and coarser lines (pi*some even value - 100 and 50 here) but be aware that any movement to movement near the center except for a long spiral like that will be choppy. | |||||

| RE: creating new tracks | 1 Relevance | 7 years ago | Bruce | Community Tracks | |
| Thanks again @dithermaster - another excellent outlining of the current state of things. From memory, I know you can put comments at the start of the track - just use the '#' character at the start of the line. I also comments can be placed among the list of vertices, but not 100% sure without testing it. We do plan to allow track speed to be changed and stipulated in a playlist - and eventually, I hope to have it as part of the thr file itself, akin to the 'F' parameter in a line of G-code, which changes the feedrate. | |||||

| RE: Impact of relative ball size? | 1 Relevance | 6 years ago | Bruce | Table Customization | |
| ... start to stick to one another due to van der WAals forces. This is why powders don't behave exactly like sands do. I have used pure baking soda - it works, and produces great detail - but just doesn't look as nice (IMO). This particle size boundary limits smooth rolling of smaller balls (ball:particle size ratio is too low - the ball gets "stuck" and deflected by the particles). Again, it's not a functional limitation - I have used ~1/8" diam. BB's, and they "work" just fine - but they move jerkily. If your goal is to to a picture of a completed track that ... | |||||

No arcs, splines, etc. Start and end your tracks either at the center or the edge of the circle. Check the resulting thr file. The rho value of the first and last vertex in the file should be either 0 or 1 (start and end can be the same rho). Rho = 1 is anywhere on your boundary circle. | RE: Default playlist tracks? | 1 Relevance | 7 years ago | dithermaster | Community Tracks
| "Erase" just has two points (radius goes from 0.0 to 1.0 and theta goes around like 100 times). But the speed isn't because of the point count. There is special code in the Sisyphus program that "knows" about erase and runs it faster. Bruce has talked about adding the ability for other tracks to do the same but it's not in current software. | |||||
