| RE: Video to Track? | 4 Relevance | 3 years ago | rgbrobot | Community Tracks | |
| I should post an update! I WAs able to use Blender to track the motion of the pendulum. I can even see their path data in my environment window! but i haven't the foggiest on how to export that path data as either XY info or as SVG data. My current plan of attack is to create an object in blender (that hopefully doesn't intersect) and export that. Then maybe I can add that to a fusion file and export STL to create the gcode. We'll see! This Project is low on the totem pole of priorities, so it may move forward slowly. Attachment : Screen-Shot-2 ... | |||||

| ... tends toward a flat surface. But (and it's a big one) - particulate matter has non-zero angle of repose. For Sisyphus, the higher the angle the better (more shadowing). That's why glass beads don't work as well as silica. There are also all sorts of properties particulate matter displays that is not common in liquids - like static buildup, and bridging / clogging. Here's a Project from WAY back that led to my fascination with particulate matter: Shimmibot. | |||||
| Table Size (?) | 4 Relevance | 7 years ago | keithhenery | Table Customization | |
| Hi, with complete understanding of costs, I'm curious if a custom table could be created at a larger size. (?). I'm currently working on a large corporate Project and think that this product could be an outstanding feature for the lobby, (... at a larger size). Apologies if my inquiry is misplaced at the site. Cheers, Keith | |||||
| RE: DIY Table Theta Question | 4 Relevance | 7 years ago | makerbobdesigns | Table Customization | |
| Bruce, Thanks for the welcome. There is absolutely no need to feel like the WAy the mechanism works is "wrong" in any WAy. Since you are the pioneer in this artistic endeavor, whatever you did is just right with me. The fact that the designs start at the 12 o'clock position lends itself nicely to the clockwise functionality. Even though I have only been thinking about this build for a few days, I feel like I already have my first victory with your confirmation about the direction. I will start another thread detailing the progress of my Project. Bob | |||||

| Thank you. I think because this issue is so minor I will leave it well enough alone. Too many foolish weekends have been spent in my life trying to tweak the last 2% of some Project. ???? | |||||
| Custom tracks | 4 Relevance | 7 years ago | jamesjeffereyder | Table Customization | |
| Hello community, I am absolutely loving my table!!!!!!! The only issue I have is that i'm having a hard time making custom tracks. I WAnted to draw my company logo but every time I try the logo is HUGE or TINY. I cant seem to get the sizing correct. I have read the instructions front to back and still cant get it correct. Would someone in the community be able to help me out with some dumbed down instructions? I'm relatively tech savy but this Project seems to have beaten me. Cheers. James | |||||
| RE: Track corruption on restore -- please add Backup/Restore | 4 Relevance | 4 years ago | john.hughan | Table Usage | |
| ... at startup, and then....nothing. No lights, no motion, no connectivity through the app. I've seen this multiple times in the past even after performing a proper shutdown. So I did what I always did: hard power cycled it by just unplugging it. This time it came up, but when I opened the app, I saw a notice I'd never seen before, saying the table had been improperly shut down, that a file error had been fixed, and that the table may have been reset to factory defaults as part of that fix -- which I discovered it had been. SERIOUSLY!? "Hey, your table wo ... | |||||
| New command line tool to convert rectangular coordinates to THR | 4 Relevance | 5 years ago | Mark Roland | Other Development | |
| As part of my sand pattern maker Project I added support for saving artwork to the Theta-Rho (.thr) format, as well as support for taking .thr files and plotting them in rectangular coordinates. I'm new to creating Node modules, but I've built upon my existing code in order to create a CLI to convert a CSV of x,y coordinates to thr coordinates. It's available at I have plans to build it up more, but I WAnted to share it sooner than later. I'm open to improvements and collaboration - just submit a PR! Thanks, Mark | |||||
| RE: DAVE MATTHEWS BAND | 4 Relevance | 5 years ago | Patti | Community Tracks | |
| I did this on a computer. I can't imagine doing it on a phone but I'm sure there are iPad tools that could handle the task. I decided to try because I thought it would be a fun learning experience and figured I could knock it out in 20-30 minutes. HAHAHA! Three hours later I WAs on like rev 9 and laughing at my optimism. How I did it: I dropped your image into photoshop, removed the text, and then used the selection tool to make an outline. I stroked that outline onto a solid white background, saved the image as a PNG, and then uploaded it to Sisyphu ... | |||||
| RE: Upload Issue: index.html error | 4 Relevance | 7 years ago | Kathryn | Community Tracks | |
| I have run into a couple files that caused the same issue, and no, I cannot see anything wrong with the file, it actually seems to run fine, but I can't reach my table unless I unplug it (I always WAit a full 10 seconds before re-plugging with electronics). I don't believe the file is originally corrupt, but something happening with the upload process to the table. I'm no techie, but my guess is that the wifi connection just isn't always perfect and causes something weird to happen arbitrarily. I'm patient though because I know this Project is still so n ... | |||||

| As a tease, my winter break Project: I have an RGBW addressable LED strip installed and working on my 2' metal Sisyphus table! Here is a short video: It's really just a prototype but I've been talking to Bruce about contributing some dynamic animations and whatnot. | |||||

| RE: Adding colored LEDs | 4 Relevance | 8 years ago | Bruce | Table Customization | |
| In my searching, I found a 2018 post on Ada Fruit's site saying something like DotStar + W is not planned. I think for Sis, faster PWM is probably not needed (unless you WAnt to put your table on a swing or something and create POV imagery :). Understand this is a hobby Project (and thankful to your wife!) - but do let us know if we can assist (like pay for any materials you need). Looking forward to seeing what you come up with! | ... for two reasons. First, the Erase track will only play center-out that WAy; it would really be nice to be able to specifically choose to play a track in reverse.... And more annoyingly, if I WAit for the Erase track to complete by arriving at Rho 1, then even if I select another single track that BEGINS at Rho 1, the table homes to Rho 0 before going back to Rho 1 to begin the track, leaving me with 2 connection lines before the track begins. I work in IT, so I understand that bugs happen, and I'm used to testing, troubleshooting, and narrowing down prob ... | |||||
| RE: Homebrew Accent Table Build | 4 Relevance | 7 years ago | makerbobdesigns | Table Customization | |
| Parking hits the spot! I have decided that this will be a truly mixed materials Project. After a while thinking of a good WAy to make the acrylic sides of the drawing area with nice even bends, I thought it would be a good time to explore different materials. Aluminum angle would be easy to snip and bend every 5° or so, but it would be a pain to isolate the LEDs from it. I found some PVC edge trim at the local hardware store that is 1-1/8" tall. A bit shorter than I WAnted, but it will work out. I took my parking "valet" with me, and lo and behold, it fits ... | |||||
| RE: Homebrew Accent Table Build | 4 Relevance | 7 years ago | makerbobdesigns | Table Customization | |
| I am sure that the table will be awesome to WAtch, and I'll enjoy making new tracks for myself and the community, but my main purpose currently is the physical build and optimization. I am also looking forward to the programming aspect of this Project. Some of the WAys that the physical interaction between Theta and Rho affect each other are going to be fun to dive into. It is pretty mind bending thinking about the differences between this machine and my printer and laser cutter. I have a bunch of parts modeled in CAD, and I am starting the buildup of the R ... | |||||
| RE: DIY Table Theta Question | 4 Relevance | 7 years ago | Bruce | Table Customization | |
| Welcome to our community! Though an unusual entrance route, we WAnt to support an open sharing of ideas. In answer to your question, in the Sisyphus coordinate system, positive Theta is CW. This is opposite of convention, where Theta = 0 is shown at 3 o'clock, and positive movement is CCW. The reason behind this "choice" WAs a simple error of mine during early development (where trials of multiple different mechanical and electrical configurations frequently flipped the directionality of the steppers). Since all my tracks were algorithmic and nonrepresentati ... | |||||
| RE: Adding colored LEDs | 4 Relevance | 8 years ago | dithermaster | Table Customization | |
| I've used both Neopixels and Dotstars. I like that Dotstars don't flicker as much (their PWM frequency is much higher), but at the time, the "+W" WAs only available in Neopixels. I'll have to check if that's changed. In terms of next steps, I'll do some prototyping and share my work with you. It's a "hobby time" Project, like creating paths WAs, so might move in fits and starts. But my lovely wife just helped me clean up my shop and office and maybe now I can get more things done. | |||||
| RE: Adding colored LEDs | 4 Relevance | 8 years ago | dithermaster | Table Customization | |
| @bruce Cool. If I get closer to doing this Project I'll get in touch. The updates would not have to be frequent (10 Hz would be plenty) nor would the resolution have to be very terribly high. | |||||
