| RE: Adding colored LEDs | 6 Relevance | 8 years ago | MicahR | Table Customization | |
| @ndhutchison This is great info! What kind of Strip did you use? Did you add a driver? @hunterdubose The process above should certainly work well if you're comfortable modding your table as such. You may have difficulty with the Hue Strip if the cable coming off is large. As @ndhutchison mentioned, I'm sure the connector won't fit through the slot in the pan so you may need to splice the wires or break the silicone seal. I imagine advising customers to modify our product is not the best business practice. But hey, I'm a hacker at heart so I'd love to see some pictures and hear how it goes! I'd be happy to answer any additional questions here, but I'll ping you via email if you prefer that. | |||||
| RE: Connectivity with Lights | 3 Relevance | 6 years ago | Bruce | Connectivity | |
| @lyntal - We have occasionally seen instances where the cable connection for the LEDs gets loose during shipping. Try pulling it out of the Mini's side and re-inserting. Also, check the black connector closest to the Strip, as well as the connector at the SisBotBoard (black circuit board under the Mini). If the lights still do not work, please contact our support desk for further troubleshooting or replacement if needed. | |||||

| I can't believe you broke your friend's table! JK 🙂 Looks like it has a bad solder joint, and your diagnostic sense is spot on. The fix is to replace the Strip - you or your friend can arrange it by contacting our support desk: | |||||
| RE: Option to reverse RGBW color rho? | 3 Relevance | 6 years ago | Bruce | App Updates | |
| Here's what our dev suggests: Navigate to home/pi/sisbot-server/sisbot/content/lights/ In led_main.py, on line 302, add a negative in front of theta. # update, regardless of socket_data update(-theta * 57.2958 + led_offset + default_offset, rho, photo, primary_color, secondary_color, Strip) Let me know if it works :). | |||||

| Yeah that's pretty much what I figured happened hehe. I simply removed the original LED Strip and put the NeoPixels in their place in the same orientation, including the connectors. At this point it would be a big hassle to remove, flip, and re-adhere the NeoPixels. I'd rather try SSHing and fiddling with the code myself if that's an option. Could someone please point me in the direction of SSH instructions/login credentials? I've seen a few posts mention it but haven't found anything concrete. | |||||
| RE: Color lights / 2 Ball retrofit kits? | 3 Relevance | 6 years ago | Bruce | Table Customization | |
| At his point, the 2-ball option is coupled with the RGBW lighting. What sold me on introducing colored lighting, WAs the absolute freedom to switch to white. There are 4 individual LEDs in each "LED" in the Strip - with a dedicated white added to RGB. This means you have complete freedom - every color of the rainbow AND any temperature white you WAnt. AND, each one is individually controllable. | |||||

| As a tease, my winter break project: I have an RGBW addressable LED Strip installed and working on my 2' metal Sisyphus table! Here is a short video: It's really just a prototype but I've been talking to Bruce about contributing some dynamic animations and whatnot. | |||||
| RE: Adding colored LEDs | 3 Relevance | 8 years ago | dithermaster | Table Customization | |
| My thoughts are: RGB+W Strip (60 or more per meter) Built-in modes: Fixed color Animated colors (gentle slow color changes) Based on ball position (rho, theta) Time-of-day (warm in morning, cool at night) Combinations of above Also, ability for a track to take over the lighting. | |||||
| Option to reverse RGBW color rho? | 3 Relevance | 6 years ago | belross | App Updates | |
| Hi, I love my 36" coffee table. A while back I upgraded the lights with RGBW NeoPixels and an Arduino and it WAs even more amazing. I WAs happy when the retrofit kits came out, so I ordered one. A customer service rep WAs kind enough to discount the kit by leaving the LEDs out (since I already had that) so I only upgraded with the light control board. The NeoPixels work perfectly with the Sisyphus control board, but unfortunately I must have gotten something mixed up when I originally swapped out the lights - colors modes with a rho follow are inverted! If ... | |||||

| ... to the actual lower range and/or step intervals the light Strip is capable of. On my table, the slider needs to be pretty much on the right half of the control for there to be light, and many “steps” the slider travels don’t raise or reduce the light level. Maybe there is a WAy to “trim” the light and make the slider dim accurately with the light Strips. (Minor quibble, as light level is one of those things you usually don’t adjust often, after it’s been set once.) | |||||

| Hi @Heropup (and @Jessica), Thanks to both of you - Heropup for first posting this hack, and later, Jessica for reminding me of this color option hack and documenting your steps. I've by been playing with LIFX Z Strips for more than a week now, and am pretty impressed. At first I WAs a bit skeptical - the whole "colored LED thing" has been around for a while, and it's usually done in a WAy that I find lacks subtlety (to put it mildly). I still don't think adding color to Sisyphus is essential, or even better - but the clincher (for me) is that the LIFX stri ... | |||||

| It is not plugged into the computer, so it runs entirely separate from the table. That said, it is very easy to program it for all of the same functionality (and more) as the original Strip. And as a bonus, you can control it with a variety of smart home apps like HomeKit. 🙂 | |||||
| RE: Adding colored LEDs | 3 Relevance | 8 years ago | mgraf68 | Table Customization | |
| Jessica - does the Strip have some type of standard connector to connect it to the Circuit board of the table? Or is it no longer controlled by the table computer? | |||||

| Next up is a straight on view of the new connection and the end of the new Strip. The connector for the old LEDs is just tucked along the backside of the hoop in case I ever decide I WAnt/need to go back. Attachment : IMG_3452.JPG | |||||

| I will post a couple of picks of the Strip and the hole I had to make it the table the next time I take the glass off, but in the meantime, here is a snap of the result. 🙂 Attachment : IMG_3425.jpg (with a special thanks to Markyland for sisyphusfortherestofus) | |||||

| Nice! Thanks for sharing your success. Consider posting pictures (I'm not sure if they work here, maybe with an imgur link, or use the SisyphusIndustries subreddit. Someday I'd like to hook up an RGB or RGBW addressable Strip to the Raspberry Pi and talk Bruce into giving me some rho/theta coordinates so it could do zoned lighting based on the ball position. | |||||

| Updates: I got my Life Z extension Strip and it popped in very easily. You can only trim the Strips between every 6th light, but it just so happens that it fits PERFECTLY in the 36" table by cutting off just the last two sets of 6. I am going to attach some pictures as promised. I think I can only attache one file per post, so this will be a short collection of posts. First up is a close up of the Life Z cord poking through the slit I made in the velvet. You can see that the velvet lays down very neatly over/around it. Attachment : IMG_3450.JPG | |||||
| RE: Adding colored LEDs | 3 Relevance | 8 years ago | ndhutchison | Table Customization | |
| Having fully disassembled my own table, I'll confirm that it should be entirely possible. There's two WAys depending on how you WAnt to go about things. If you're ok with removing and reconnecting the wires, then you'll be able to feed them up through a small slot in the sand tray. Have a look under your table and you'll see the existing LED wire go through that slot. It's wide enough for the wires, but not for a connector. If you don't mind a little more work, then you can remove the tray entirely. It's held down with some silicone sealant, so shoul ... | |||||
