... really happy with the WAy the lights work from below. Obviously, the video doesn't do it justice, and it would definitely look a lot better if I WAs drawing with a computer instead of by hand.
Any tips on the kind of sand in use on your tables would be appreciated. Mine isn't white, but it seems fairly fine. Maybe finer wouldn't be so loud.

... on a Custom built Sisyphus mechanism and control software that I will be adding to this table I found on Amazon.
While I have built furniture in the past, what I am really after is the mechanical and electronic portions of this project. I have ordered most of the parts I will need with a bonus from work, so my project will call my office home, and distract guests along with the other "toys" that I have on hand. Some parts have arrived today, so the journey begins!
Here are a few of my goals that differ from standard tables:

David,
The path taken by the ball between points is a linear interpolation in polar coordinates. Which generally means an arc of some kind. So if your intention is a straight line, you'll need to use many points. In my path generation code, I subdivide lines until they are "small enough" (a balance between noticeable and large file sizes).
The "default" paths ("factory" paths) were all created by artist Bruce Shapiro over the many years he has been making Custom Sisyphus tables. The "community" tracks have been made by many folks (including me). Welcome to the group; I look forward to seeing what you make!
All of the outside contributions are using Custom code. Some folks have put their code online (e.g., Some just share the results.
... Download file as - and just saving it as is)
For some of them, I can go into GET INFO and just remove the txt or HTML extension, and confirm I WAnt it to be a .thr file. On some it has worked. Others I end up having an error like the attached.
One time on a Custom track upload (forget which one) I had the table go into a noisy chattering mode like it WAs skipping gear teeth and scared the heck out of me that I broke it. So I am not entirely sure removing the file extensions is the right WAy to fix this problem.
Thanks,
mark

Curious if anyone has tried to Customize for an outdoor (in a potentially damp, not wet) location? I see many issues, but just wondering if anyone tackled them. Most important, does the sand handle any humidity or will it clump and lose resolution? The rest I can see some Custom enclosure solutions.
Hello,
I'm new here. I just ordered a Mini with the intent to sculpt a Custom ornate marble pedestal for it. I'm thinking I should have ordered an EX? Not positive of the differences. Also, I'm interested in any suggestions for such a project.
Also, I'll need to cancel if I cannot take delivery by mid-July. Wondering if switching to an EX will help.
I am a regular at the annual MARBLE/marble sculpting symposium in Marble Colorado. MARBLE/marble Stone Carving Symposium – America’s premiere stone carving experience. (marbleinst.org)

I have the cheapest kickstart mini...no led..no glass..etc. I have created a Custom housing for it and would like to add an led strip.. I see some type plug in. Just WAnted to know if I can plug a reg type led strip and it work without a bunch of added cost/ effort.
Thanks
If you don't WAnt to create your own, we do occasionally create Custom tracks for a fee. I can't remember the cost, but drop a request on our support desk with what you'd like, and they'll get you a quote.
... table or Mini. Recall that the tail-ball is always located at the head-ball's Theta + Pi, and 1 - head-ball's Rho. From there you should be able to figure out the analogous head ball parking tracks.
However - we are not recommending doing so. I WAs initially excited when I discovered the ability to add 2-ball function, and the WAy it can produce very nice patterns with some algorithmic tracks. And the ball park is designed symmetrically because head-ball parking WAs planned. But we've recently stopped shipping with 2-ball mode, and are moving away from of ...
@bruce I have a Custom-built sand table that I have developed on for a couple years now and as part of that I have written quite a few Lighting Modes for an Adafruit Dotstar LED strip.
I have a demo video and all of my code is available on Github. I would be happy to contribute these to the community.
Is there a WAy to connect the dots between what I have created and the LEDs in the Sisyphus table?
... cycling the table fixes it for a few hours, but a) the problem returns a few hours later, and b) given prior experiences of how the table behaves after power is cut, I don't really like power cycling it.
This is unfortunately just the latest aggravation of several in the 5 months that I've had my coffee table. First I ended up having to perform multiple factory resets, each of which restored the table to a slightly different state -- and each of which caused me to lose my downloaded tracks and Custom playlists. Then I had a firmware update brick my table, ...
Im having the same issues with a lot of the "DougO" tracks, so much that i hate to run one.
When creating these Custom tracks, does it allow the creator to make a track that can go outside the boundaries ever so slightly of the arms reach? Another gripe with some of the tracks is that they're just too messy along the edges. Im sure most Sisyphus owners are perfectionists and this probably bugs the hell out of them...it definitely does for me lol
Most tracks will work with any of those "% of sand field" ratios. However, some tracks might be more sensitive to it, such as my "ying yang" and "it's your move" tracks. They were designed on my 2' side table, which fortunately is in the middle of the ranges. I need to try them on my mini, and I'm curious what they look like on the coffee tables. I'd be happy to create Custom versions for different size tables and ball sizes, but without a WAy to test them, it's hard.
We most definitely can do Custom work in larger sizes - including museum pieces 10' in diameter. (I will follow up with you using the email address on your account.)
Hi, with complete understanding of costs, I'm curious if a Custom table could be created at a larger size. (?). I'm currently working on a large corporate project and think that this product could be an outstanding feature for the lobby, (... at a larger size).
Apologies if my inquiry is misplaced at the site.
Cheers, Keith
Depending on whether you really WAnt to build this or buy it, I bet Bruce would sell you a sisbot sans table for your Custom furniture. Or get a Mini and transplant the mechanism into that table.
... on your Sisyphus, but it will definitely cause problems if someone tries it on a different size Sisyphus. (The reason is that all rho values are scaled by the table's sand field radius. But the distance beyond the normal plottable field and the ball park is not proportional to table size). If you'd like to post pics of your Custom erase track in action, or post snippets of the track and explain how it works, for those who WAnt to create their own, I'm fine with that. But we do not approve tracks for download on our Community or forum that cannot be played ...
Update :
Just discovered that in the saved playlist, you can add and delete tracks. It has a nifty feature where you can increase/reduce the repetion of the tracks with a +/- button. For eg, you do not have to add the erase track repeatedly, instead increase the count by tapping on the ’+’ button. Solves a huge discomfort of editing tracks.
... think it's a bug). At the same time, if I access these downloaded tracks, I am unable to select multiple tracks and add to a playlist. Currently, I can only add one track at a time, and after that the playlist opens automatically. I then have to go back to the tracks list and add a single track to a playlist, and it again opens the playlist... So and so forth. It's a real bother when you are dealing with a whole lot of tracks.
Maybe we need a code to go along with the track name, that specifies that the track is Reversible/Non-reversible, 10,01,00 or 11. T ...
... lighting. Each LED can be thought of as a pixel, and can be independently changed (both hue and brightness). However, unless you WAnt to dive into Python code and created Custom presets, there is no WAy to easily set up an interface allowing you to do so - so we currently have a few presets from which you can choose. "Spread" changes in accord to the ball's (head ball's, if you're running in 2-ball mode) position. You choose a primary hue / brightness, which follows the ball's Theta position (rotation). The size of this following "beacon" responds to the b ...
