| I thought I would express my delight with my 3 footer in a traditional geek WAy: Ask for more features! Naturally, my real motive is to spark discussion of WAys to enhance it without breaking what makes it so amazing. Here's a couple of things that have been rattling around my head. I'm sure a few more crazier ideas will shake loose eventually. Live Title Card. This would be a thin, nearly border-less eInk display that could either sit on the table top or be hung on a WAll nearby. Its design should scream "museum title card". It could update occasionally ... | |||||

| I can save you from a (small, inexpensive) mistake. Don't buy these: I wonder if there's something in the world that's like a ball bearing with a textured surface? That might produce some cool effects for things that are coarse linework, though I'd guess they'd make a Total mess of fine details. If not it might be easy to 3d print a thin cover for one. | |||||
| RE: Track organization. | 8 Relevance | 6 years ago | heropup | App Usage | |
| Yes, the idea I had for a center-center or edge-edge erase track WAs to do half the number of turns as usual, and then do the other half on the WAy back? That WAy, the Total distance remains roughly the same, without creating any obvious asymmetries or doubling back. But given the tight spacing, it probably still wouldn't look like a normal erase track. | |||||

| Now serving! I aim to use these two servos to control dual sided ball parks. One per side of the table for a Total of 4 ball locations. If I can get the balls out of the play area, I should be able to have more room for cleanup tracks that go outside Rho 1. Tomorrow is testing day for the servos and optical end stop limit switches. | ... a big battery or charge it frequently if you converted it to use a battery. If you do think about adding a battery, a good source might be the ones for motorized recliners. We added one of those to a recliner that we didn't WAnt a cord running to, and it only needs to be charged once every few weeks. But it's as big as a kid's shoe. There is room under the Sisyphus, so it might be possible. The transformer puts out 12VDC (at 4A). Also note that the upcoming Sisyphus Mini will have a rechargeable battery option. 2. I've never oiled mine, and I've never remo ... | |||||

| Anything that's dry should be fine (no WArranty issue). I tried baking soda a few years ago, but powder doesn't look "natural" to me. I didn't understand it fully, until I read The Physics of Blown Sand and Desert Dunes (1941). Turns out that if particles are small enough (~100 microns or smaller), they get "sticky" due to Van der WAals force. Though the angle of repose is maybe higher for powder, the WAy the dunes look just doesn't appeal to me. But I'm fine with people experimenting - though I'd advise against using glitter (I'm still finding it 3 years la ... | |||||

| Hi - Definitely, RGBW can also do white (any color temp. white you choose). We're phasing out our stock of Natural and WArm white only strips, and I think we were selling them a bit less expensive (until gone). | |||||

| Yes, color lighting courtesy of LIFX Z strips. Because I already have most of my home on LIFX lighting, this WAs the Natural choice. Since LIFX also allows control of the lights while I’m not on my home WiFi, whereas this is not yet the case for Sisyphus, it is definitely more convenient at this time to illuminate the table with these. That said, I am curious to find out how you’re going to integrate color lighting with the table, as this would admit track and/or ball position dependent color lighting, something that LIFX can’t do. For me, I would like a ... | |||||

| Bruce, Have you seen this? I bet there would be huge demand for a scaled-down, table-top version of this. The possibilities for what to display "inside" are limited only by the imagination. In addition to WAves, you could have dancing fire, bouncing balls, the solar system, three-dimensional versions of the geometric shapes from the Sisyphus table, splattering paint, moving sand, rain, etc, etc. Just like with the Sisyphus table, there could be a multitude of different animated patterns - with accompanying sound effects - that could be organized in ... | |||||

| ... my TRS-80 I discovered x=sin(t) and y=cos(t) for clockwise from 12 and it WAs only later in school I learned the "correct" WAy of doing counter-clockwise from 3. I also work now in an industry where if there are multiple WAys of doing something you can be assured they are all in common use (although I'd love to have a talk with the genius who decided bottom-up raster images made good sense after decades of them going the other WAy). So when programming the Sisyphus I just observed how it acted to the coordinates I sent it and went from there, I never once f ... | |||||
