| RE: Maintenance track wish | 11 Relevance | 5 years ago | Bruce | Table Usage | |
| As several other users have noted, Simple physics makes it inevitable that sand will accumulate at Rho 1.0. I take issue with a couple parts of this statement. First is the term "simple," and second, "accumulate". The latter is a minor quibble: it's obvious that if the ball's reach is confined to a perimeter, this will result in what I call the "terminal berm" (others have used "windrow"). This ridge does build up over time, but only to a point, which is self-limited by the angle of repose for the silica we use. But my real disagreement is with using "simple" to describe the physics behind devising strategic plowing strategies using a rolling sphere on / through granular matter. It "seems" like it should be easy to create Sisyphus paths that move sand in a desired direction. Most people (including me) intuit that the erase pattern should move sand out when running from Rho 0 to 1, and in when running from 1 to 0. But this is greatly dependent on the tightness of the spiral (how close successive passes are). My empiric experience suggests Simple Archimedes spirals have very little net effect on overall sand distribution. I tried several times over the past 20 years to devise an efficient strategy for "plowing" routines, and never succeeded. I'm not saying it is impossible - I'm pretty sure it is. But it's not easy, at least for me. However, dumb luck + paying attention, led to noting that tracks that repeatedly move in and out while precessing around the field, when run from Rho 1 to 0, are very efficient at plowing in toward the center. Case in point: Create a playlist composed of erase then apache. Play it sequentially with repeat on, overnight. And yes, during our failed struggle to improve 2-ball reliability, I made several attempts at devising a plow-in track that started in >1 territory, hoping to break up and move the terminal berm into <1 territory - with extremely little success. Growing up and living in Minnesota, I (along with all my fellow northerners) am very familiar with plows. My take-home from this exercise: rolling spheres make piss poor plows. 🙂 (ps - would love to be proven wrong) | |||||

| Help with simple logo for SVG File | 7 Relevance | 6 years ago | info9 | Community Tracks | |
| Hello! Hope you all are doing well. I'm trying to get my sisyphus table to produce a logo, but I'm struggling to get the SVG working correctly. Does anyone here know how to create a workable SVG track? It's a very Simple line art logo that I believe should be a '1-1' type of track. I have been trying to create it myself in Illustrator, but keep running into problems with extra lines being added into the design... Is anyone able to help me with this? Thank you! Nathan | |||||

| ... plan to eventually add a WAy to add custom shapes or even write turtle programs to draw unique designs that we (polar and rectangular) users can share. If anyone has any other ideas of Simple shapes I could add, or different transforms I can apply to the shapes, I'd love to hear them. I enjoy writing this tool, and seeing the output on my little zen XY. I'll probably respond quickest if bugs and feature requests went in github: | |||||

| ... them to the XYLA table. During the upload, the browser becomes unresponsive and I click the WAIT button for it to continue the process. This popup can happen several times before the track is actually rendered on the screen and I'm able to save it. When I click to save the track, the browser loses connectivity to the table, even to the point that I have to unplug it to regain browser connectivity. But then, I notice that the track that WAs supposedly uploaded, is not in the library. It seems that I can only be successful with very Simple tracks (like s ... | |||||

| Markyland hasn't yet released a v2 of SFTROUS. But you can easily edit the tracks it creates to remove the pre-erase. Open the *.thr file in a text editor. Erase the first two lines, which will look like: 0 0 0 0 Then save the file with a different name (if you WAnt to keep the original). The track will then skip the erase and start at Rho = 1 (the outer edge). | |||||

| @acupofmud, On sandify, with the thr output, whatever you put in will be normalized to 1.0, so you can put in whatever size you WAnt. If it helps, 1.5feet is about 450mm, so for a good visualization, I would put in 450. If you WAnt the pattern to look bigger without editing the pattern settings, then you can set the table dimensions smaller, and it will still normalize to 1.0. | |||||

| Hi everyone, I came across a thread on Reddit talking about a possible SisyphusForTheRestOfUs v2 about a year ago. ( ) But I couldn't find any more details and the thread has been locked. I tried messaging markyland but have not heard back from him. Anyone know if v2 is available or what the status is? I love the result of SisyphusForTheRestOfUs but the erase track that it adds at the front is very slow and it would be nice to be able to not have the erase at all (which WAs supposed to be one of the features of v2) | |||||

| Sisyphus tables use radius = 1.0 for all sizes. So probably "1.0". Then again, I have not exported tracks from that tool so I could be wrong. | |||||

| OH MAN! The SANDIFY tool is just what I needed! I had tried to make some designs before and could never quite get it to work. But now, it's like I'm playing with my Spirograph when I WAs a kid! Thanks to everyone and especially thanks to Bruce and your team for such a fabulous piece of art! Everyone that WAlks into my living room just stands and drools on it. ???? | |||||

| And finally, Bruce, thank you for the encouragement and the initial testing. It's great to see the pattern in real sand. I'll always smile when I see my creation used by strangers. It keeps me motivated. @jeffeb3 And my thanks to you, and others like @markyland, who have put your time and energy into making it easier for others to compose for Sisyphus! I can't tell you how thrilling that is for me to see. | |||||

| @jeffeb3 I'm not sure your current settings need improving, but my guess is for much larger fields, more verts would be better. If anything, vert number should be proportional to the field radius, or maybe the square of the radius. | |||||

| @jeffeb3 Ah, yes that makes sense for g-code. But with Sis, the only command options in a thr file is just another vertex position to travel to. Fine to leave it to the user to put the '#' in before a comment. | |||||

It keeps me motivated. I'll be honest, I made the circle lobes to mimick the infinity symbol on your logo :). It's not quite two circles connected by two lines. Maybe I'll manually add that the WAy I did for the vicious1 logo. | |||||

| Talking about the resolution. If we can pick something that makes sense, then I'd rather not have it as an option. I'm trying hard to not write a manual 🙂 Maybe something like Rho/3000 would make more sense? I could compute the xy resolution for given machine parameters. It seems a little excessive to have less than 1mm resolution, but if the machine can handle it, then maybe it's conservative to just have too many points. | |||||

| Talking about that comment: Did you write that sentence in the save dialog? The long story with that is the dialog WAs meant for any gcode you'd WAnt to run first. Something like a home command or setting the speed. I expected that section to be either blank, or actual commands, or comments written with the user adding the comment character. If there really is no reason to have a pre/post for thr, I could either rearrange the dialog to not offer it, or make it clear that it's only for comments. Another user expressed interest in having the settings adde ... | |||||
