| RE: Homebrew Accent Table Build | 38 Relevance | 7 years ago | makerbobdesigns | Table Customization | |
| Parking hits the spot! I have decided that this will be a truly mixed materials project. After a while thinking of a good WAy to make the acrylic sides of the drawing area with nice even bends, I thought it would be a good time to explore different materials. Aluminum angle would be easy to snip and bend every 5° or so, but it would be a pain to isolate the LEDs from it. I found some PVC edge trim at the local hardware store that is 1-1/8" tall. A bit shorter than I WAnted, but it will work out. I took my parking "valet" with me, and lo and behold, it fits ... | |||||

| You use it on the sand by pushing it so the curled edge goes over the sand like a sled, and the wide, Flat area presses the sand Flat in a nice, wide, even path. The utensil is normally used when you're chopping up food, you hold the curl and scoop up the chopped bits with the Flat side. | |||||

| I have a cooking utensil that's basically a Flat piece of steel with a curl on one side (see attached file) - think of it as a wide sled. It's great for making a nice clean, Flat sand border around the table - it's really hard to get it even and smooth. This does the trick nicely. Doug Attachment : IMG_3802.JPG | |||||

| ... tends toward a Flat surface. But (and it's a big one) - particulate matter has non-zero angle of repose. For Sisyphus, the higher the angle the better (more shadowing). That's why glass beads don't work as well as silica. There are also all sorts of properties particulate matter displays that is not common in liquids - like static buildup, and bridging / clogging. Here's a project from WAY back that led to my fascination with particulate matter: Shimmibot. | |||||
| RE: Brightness-- stainless vs black ring | 6 Relevance | 4 years ago | Patti | Table Usage | |
| @Bruce I imagine there are lots of complications as the size grows. Do you make the rings Flat on the underside of enormous tables, or are they angled to direct the light farther? My side table is both subtle and not-subtle. The difference jumped out at me every time I WAlked past it, and I run the stainless one at about 1/3 less brightness than I used for the black one. | |||||
| RE: Ball gets hung up | 6 Relevance | 6 years ago | Bruce | Table Usage | |
| My guess is that you might have some cumulative position error (tiny errors that add up). This is more likely to happen if you run at high speeds. We're working on some improvements to the motion control code, that should lessen this likelihood - but in the mean time, you can move (or remove) the plastic ball park by carefully loosening it by prying it up with a non-sharp Flat tool (butter knife?). It's held in place by strong double-stick tape. | |||||
| Power Cord Protector | 6 Relevance | 7 years ago | anthony.navarro | Table Customization | |
| ... be run and a "power brick" won't be unceremoniously sitting on the side of the WAll. I purchased a cord protector like I had for other items that run a cord a distance from a WAll outlet for the Sisyphus but the ferromagnet in the middle has to be forced into the protector, and leaves a hump, which I don't expect to be a problem, but you get my point. Thanks! PS: As a further idea, have the power plug be one of those "Low Profile" plugs that point down instead of out, i.e. Attachment : IMG_1494.jpg | |||||
